Maple Bourbon Bacon Pecan Brussel Sprout Salad ~ It’s here, it’s here. The holiday season! Gah! Where does the time go? For some they get together with their families and serve a traditional Thanksgiving style family meal. For others, they do more of the Friends-giving style dinner and offer a few more interesting or adventurous choices at the table. And for a small batch … well … they just leave town and don’t deal with any of the hoopla. If you are in the middle and looking for something to kick-up the table offerings a notch try this Maple Bourbon Bacon Pecan Brussel Sprout Salad. It’s a warm salad that comes together in the few minutes you have while “resting the turkey” and can be on the table before you finish carving. Savory Brussels sprouts dripping with pure maple syrup, pecans, and a dash of bourbon (save the rest for drinking) finished with some bacon bits –– dive in.

Ingredients
  • 1 pound Brussels sprouts thinly chopped
  • 1/2 pound bacon chopped
  • 1/2 medium onion peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup pecans
  • 3 Tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • 2 Tablespoons bourbon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions
  1. Place chopped bacon into a large pan over medium heat. Sauté for 3 minutes then add in the onions. Continue to sauté until lightly golden -- about 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and drain off excess oil.
  2. In a small bowl whisk together the maple syrup and the bourbon. Add Brussels sprouts, bacon, onions and bourbon mix back into the pan. Place pan over medium high heat. Sauté together for 1-2 minutes or until well incorporated. Remove from heat. Add salt and pepper and serve.
