Have you ever had one of those weeks where you can’t remember what day it is? Well … this has been one of those weeks for me. What’s today anyway? The good news is that no matter what the August day … it’s THAT time again. Have you heard? They’re baaaaaaaaccccccckkkkk … Hatch Chili Peppers and the season is in full swing ~ Hooray! They are everywhere –– and I mean e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e –– and people just seem to go gaga over them. There are festivals, shows and culinary playoffs solely devoted to these hot greenies and right now it’s a buzzin’ in these parts and all over the blogging circuit. There’s just no where to hide –– Hatch sticks are HERE –– and I love ‘em. The pepper originated in Hatch, New Mexico but now is grown throughout the southwest region. They can vary in heat from very mild to hotter than a jalapeño – woo-wee! The chilis tones are a light to medium and sometimes darker, green while at times can be slightly yellowish color. They range from about two to seven inches long and they may be grilled, stuffed, chopped or diced –– I understand why there is such a fuss about these little spice-ers. The census seems to still be out whether it’s spelled chili, chile or chilli but according to Wikipedia all of these are accepted and I think, once again, I just caught a severe case of Hatch Chili Fever. Here are a few recipe ideas including my newest to help getcha through the season:
