Creamy Radish Bites ~ What a whirlwind of a weekend ~ whew! The weekend before last was the forth annual Food + Wine Festival here in Austin, Texas, and I think I am just now coming up for air after it all. The main festivities this year were held at Auditorium Shores with several parties hosted throughout the city: A Sips and Sweets Party at Mellow Johnny’s, a Rock Your Taco + Taste of Texas Event at Republic Square, and a Candyland Party at the W Hotel’s Trace Restaurant for example. With all of the events, food, and drinks –– I left feeling full, satisfied, and a little sad that it all had to end until next year but … I was ready for a loooonnnngggg nap.

A question that I get asked a lot when attending these types of events: Do you get to eat everything and do you get tired of eating? Yes and no. I think I got to try just about everything that was there –– I know it’s a tough job, right? –– but what’s cool, or interesting, about eating such copious amounts of food is that the really good dishes begin to stand out. Some of my favorite highlights from this year include: Brisket from Stiles Switch — ridiculously tender and flavorful; the White Chocolate Gazpacho from Olive + June — not too sweet and perfectly herbaceous; the Curry Puffy Taco from Underbelly — unique and amazing; the Taro Root Salmon Taco from Uchi — the salmon was like butter between that crispy shell; Wood-Burning Oven Oysters from Jack Allen’s Kitchen — smoky goodness on the shell; and I loved the Watermelon Radish Bites from Farmhouse Delivery — so simple, yet so delicious that I decided to make them when I got home. This recipe is mine (so it’s close to what they made at the festival) but the real credit goes to Farmhouse Delivery for bringing such a delicious bite to the mix and letting me try this tasty morsel. I used regular sour cream for these but if you’re feeling fancy you could try some crème fraîche instead. Wouldn’t these be lovely at a brunch or Mother’s Day gathering?
