Dear Local Savour,

What can I do with a ton of dried lavender? I’ve added it to Herbes de Provence and rubbed it on a strip loin roast with success but am otherwise at a loss.

Help!

evh January 8, 2013

Hi Clay! Great question. In addition to using it around the house for it’s calming qualities such as adding it to your bathtub or throwing some in a little pan with some water to simmer for the relaxing aroma, try making a brown butter sauce with it. Brown the butter and finish with a sprig (or two) then pour over fish or pasta. You can also check out this Meyer Lemon Cookie Recipe with Lavender http://localsavour.com/2012/12/day-two-12-days-of-holiday-cookies-meyer-lemon-shortbread/ you can use that “drizzle” on cookies and cakes. Don’t forget there’s always lavender tea. Hope these ideas help – Enjoy!

Ok, you have my attention. How many delicious plank recipes do you think could get away with before a I got in touch?

So, I’m a hug fan. And we would love to have you try out a couple of our small-batch products. I left a link to my website, so check it out.

Can I send you some of our stuff for you to play around with- we’d love to have you post a celeb chef guest blog, if you are interested.

I wanted to make your “Warm Custard Spoon Bread” (recipe at Food52.com) this Saturday and I wonder if it can be made ahead. If yes, how long, and should I just reheat it before serving?

Thanks!

Hummm… I’ve never made it ahead of time ~ I bet you could though. I would cook it just until it’s almost done (about 7 minutes less) so it doesn’t dry out when you reheat it. Let me know how it goes ~ enjoy! 🙂
